Echoes and Reflections

From an early age, we learn to recognise ourselves in mirrors, seeing a unified reflection of us as our "true self." This image not only makes us believe that the self is a unitary thing, but also defines selfhood around the action of seeing.

However, as we gain new perspectives, we notice contradictions in the idea of a singular self. Like members of a family, different “selves” are interconnected, sharing overlapping features, yet none can fully represent the family, i.e. the self.

This work mixes still and moving images, exploring the self’s unstable, ethereal, and evolving nature. It invites viewers to observe the interaction between figures in two images and feel the attunement, harmony, and discordance between them.
